What is a hat fic?

A hat fic is a type of fan fiction that is known for being particularly graphic, sexual, and/or disturbing in nature. It often involves characters from a particular fandom engaging in explicit and taboo acts, often with a focus on humiliation or degradation. The term "hat fic" originated from a particularly notorious and infamous fan fiction involving members of the band My Chemical Romance. The story was so shocking and disturbing that it became a sort of benchmark for other extreme fan fictions within the fandom community. Hat fics are generally not recommended for those who are easily disturbed or offended.
